About

My career in non-clinincal health care began in 1997.  I was working at a now defunct local internet service provider.  When I was laid off without any prospects or formal education, I decided it was time for a change.  I took a course in EKG technology and Hospital Unit Coordinating at a local community college.  Soon after, I was employed as a Unit Clerk.  After working in this very stressful job, I found that I hated it.  I soon desired to transfer to another department.  I would often pick up charts in the medical record department.  It was always so quiet and peaceful.  When the opportunity came about, I started working as a medical record specialist.

After working in medical records, I came across transcribed reports and thought, "I can do this."  My online search for an edcation source lead me to a company called Career Step.  I'd never heard of Career Step, but found that there program was very interesting.  It was also very affordable!  One thing that really stood out to me in the information packet that I received was a cassette tape.  Yes, I'm showing my age, but it's so amazing how quickly technology has changed.  The cassette contained a message from the company's president, Andrea Anaya.  She stated how she started in medical transcription and how that aweful experience lead her to create Career Step.

The fact that she took the time to sit down and record her story to share with others was really inspirational to me.  She showed me that she was human and that life is difficult for all of us, but if it's something we truly desire and work for, it can happen.  After reviewing the packet and listening to Andrea, I decided to study with Career Step.  I started my training in the year 2000 and finished in 2002.  In Novermber of 2002, I started working for a company called Edix, which was changed to Spheris.  The thought and ability to work at home was like nothing else.

Career Step is the educational source that I recommend to anyone looking to start a career in the non-clinical health care setting.  Career Step is comprised of medical transcriptionists and medical coders.  They don't just talk the talk, but they've walked the walk.  They know and understand how hard it is to get started and work effectively when you haven't been trained properly.  The course is extremely thorough.  When you complete training as a MT or coder, you will be ready to start work immediately.

If you're interested in working from home as a medical transcriptionist or medical coder, if have to give Career Step a try.  You have nothing to lose.  Send off for a free information packet to see how you can start training right now!  I believe in Career Step, because I know from experience that it's an excellent program of study.
